Houston area leads the country in construction growth

Federal data released Wednesday confirmed construction employment has continued to increase year over year across the nation. The Houston region leads the country with 29,500 jobs added since last September, an increase of 14 percent.

“Many construction firms are expanding their headcount as they benefit from favorable market conditions,” said Stephen E. Sandherr, chief executive officer of the Associated General Contractors of America. “The question is whether conditions will remain positive amid a growing trade dispute with China and turbulent stock market conditions.”

Other areas seeing a large number of construction jobs added in the past 12 months included Phoenix (14,600 jobs, 13 percent), Dallas (14,100 jobs, 10 percent), Orlando (12,300 jobs, 17 percent), and Midland (6,600 jobs, 23 percent).
